Linux World Days 1-3

Jeez, I keep forgetting to write about LinuxWorld.. First of all, sitting on a bed and using the laptop gets very uncomfortable after about 20 minutes in one position. The weather has been great here.. high 50’s at night and high 60’s in the daytime.. The conference has been great, got so much free stuff, im going to have to get a box for all this stuff and check it as baggage. HP Announced this morning that they’ll be selling linux laptops pre-installed with SUSE 9.1. I thought that was pretty neat. After two days of drawings, I have yet to win the Sharp Zarus. One more chance tomorrow.. Intel had a pretty cool party last night, they had a guy with a chainsaw doing an ice sculpture of an “intel inside” logo. ...

Linux World Arrival

Made it to San Francisco this afternoon for Linux World. The weather is real nice, about 68 degrees right now.. The hotel is decent, but the wireless seems to be flaky, it’s acting like a linksys router or something.. every minute or so it drops me. I’ve got the same issues in linux and windows with both my broadcom b/g minipci and my orinoco gold.. so im using my orinoco with the externa mag mount antenna.. good thing i brought it, found another access point not owned by the hotel, which provides a much more stable connection, just a weak signal. ...

Homeland Security and Photography

Check out The Artist’s Statement, Ian Spiers, had a runin with local law enforcement and feds while taking pictures for a college assignment. It’s a shame that the government wastes their time on people who pose no threat, yet the real threatening people pass through the governments wings everyday.

Mistreated Journalists at LAX

I cannot believe that something like this would happen in our own country. This is something I’d expect when travelling to third world places. It’s amazing how things like this stay out of the media, but when we have gay pile-ups thats much more important. Check out the article Here. Why do we detain foreign journalists? Do we detain foreign oil workers, foreign farmers, doctors, lawyers, chemical engineers? Never heard about it, why journalists? I always thought journalists had a sort of free reign to report anywhere. Obviously something is going on.. ...

YAPC Day 1

Well, I’m here at YAPC 2004. Sitting here on the wireless, listening to the keynotes and Perl upcoming releases speech and such. The hotel SUCKS!! The University Inn, in Buffalo, NY is horrible customer service wise. I got in last night and they said “Hey, you were supposed to be here yesterday, we canceled your reservation.” So they stuck me in a damn sofa bed for the night, and basically told me its my fault. Even though I have a confirmation email stating that my room has been reserved for the 15th and not the 14th!!! These people need a bitch slappin! ...
